A New Road Sign in France Might Confuse Foreign Drivers

A new road sign has recently appeared on French roads — a white diamond on a blue or black background. At first glance, it might look like a construction symbol, an emergency lane, or simply a strange marking you’ve never seen before. And that's because it's not part of the standard European road signs.

What does the white diamond mean? It marks lanes reserved for carpooling vehicles — that is, cars with at least two people inside. This is part of France's environmental policy to reduce traffic congestion and CO2 emissions.

The problem is... Most foreign drivers are unfamiliar with this symbol. Encountering it unexpectedly while driving on a busy motorway or through a city can cause hesitation or unsafe lane changes. In worst cases, it could lead to accidents.

Is it legal? The EU allows member states to introduce their own road signs but expects them to ensure foreign drivers are well informed. Unfortunately, this new sign was introduced without an international awareness campaign.

In short: If you're driving in France, be aware of lanes marked with a white diamond. They're not for superheroes — they're for carpoolers only. Driving alone in one of these lanes can result in a fine.

No more postings on Facebook!

Hi folks, no more postings on the Facebook account! For a several months we were facing a big problem with the acoount and the Facebook didn't want to help us with it. That's why we stopped posting on Facebook. The complete lack of responses from Facebook about the problems puts us off completely from this site. We would like to delete the account, but it is also impossible because we cannot fully log in to our account (Facebook is eating its own tail...).

France

France is for many years the country most visited by tourists. This is due to its diversity, both in terms of landscapes and wildlife, as well as a legacy of history. Particulary interesting is the south of France: Provence and the Cote d'Azur.

French Riviera

Cote d'Azur (known also as French Riviera) is the area of the Mediterranean coast between Marseille and the Italian-French border. It is characterized by an extremely friendly (mild and sunny) climate and a exceptional high number of sunny days a year.

Italy

Italy is a country very rich in history, traditions and the culture. Traces of Italy's great past can be found all over the country. The best way to experience the culture of Italy, is immersing in some towns and villages.

Monaco

Monaco is a miniature state, which lies on the Mediterranean, between Nice and Menton, surrounded on three sides by France. Its size (about 2 km2) makes it the second smallest country in the world (after the Vatican).

Provence

Provence is a region that lies on the Mediterranean Sea and is located between the Côte d'Azur and Languedoc. It is a kingdom of lavender and olive trees. Although some say that the Cote d'Azur belongs to Provence, it can be distinguished as a separate area due to its unique character.
